Welcome!Students are expected to sit in their assigned seats, while focusing on the task at hand. Additionally, students are expected to adhere to the expectations and procedures of the course. According to the consequences, students are expected to follow directions the FIRST time they are given. Participation:Students are expected to actively participate in class. To participate in class one must raise their hand and wait to be acknowledged by Ms. Grimes. Students who speak out of turn or blurt out will lose the right to be heard in class. So, if you have a great comment or question, you will be given a chance to share it; however, please be respectful and mindful of your peers' right to be heard as well. Everyone deserves the right to be heard! Prepared for Class:Expectations are high when it comes to being prepared for class. Please understand that It is the student's responsibility to be prepared for class. Before coming into class, students should make sure they have the following: notebook, pencils/pens, assignment that needs to be turned in, and any other supplies needed for the day. You WILL NOT be permitted to go to your locker to get them. Students who repeatedly come to class unprepared will face appropriate consequences, such as silent lunch and after school detention. Grades:Grades are earned by the student. Ms. Grimes does not give grades. If students desire to earn an "A," students must work to earn it! You get out of class what you put into it. Parents, you will be contacted weeks 3 and 7 regarding your child's progress in class. In the meantime, and throughout the year, please check the Parent Portal to ensure that your child is progressing well in my course. Classwork/Homework & Studying:Students are expected to complete all classwork/homework assignments by the due date. It is the student's responsibility to copy the night’s homework assignment off of the board and complete it. Nightly classwork completion assignments are also posted on Ms. Grimes website. They will be checked for completion the following day. If no classwork/ homework is assigned, students are expected to review their notes and prior assignments for at least 20 minutes. Talk with your parents about what you learned in class today or quiz them to see what they know!
Notebook & OrganizationStudents are expected to maintain up to five 70-page single subject spiral notebook for the entire school year (that’s two -three each semester). Your notebook is where you will be keeping all of your notes, assignments, and other valuable class information. You will need it to study for tests and quizzes. The notebook table of contents is posted on Ms. Grimes' website. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure that your notebook is organized, all of the assignments are properly glued in on the correct pages, and your pages are numbered. Notebooks will be checked periodically. Please bring it to class daily.
